VJAS hails Maharashtra’s Govt. decision  to give Universal Food Security

Nagpur: 24th April , 2013
Vidarbha Janandolan Samiti  (VJAS) has welcomed the recent announcement of Maharashtra of food and civil supply Minister Anil Deshmukh that Maharashtra will provide universal food security to all poor covering 80% population in rural and 60% population in urban area to families under annual income below one lakh , Kishor Tiwari of  VJAS informed in press release today

Recently concerned minister announced that Maharashtra state Govt. will provide food grain under food security act and citizen belonging to BPL category and APL would be benefited, they will wheat @ Rs. 2 per kg and Rice @ Rs. 3 per kg, the scheme will be lunched in current financial year, Minister announced.
It is reported that from 6.4 million existing beneficiaries under food distribution scheme if Minister announced is implemented by administration more 12 million needy poor will food security which is long pending demand of the VJAS which is agitating since 2001 and moved Mumbai high court and Maharashtra human right commission (MHRC) in past but even after direction from high court families under BPL and tribal are denied food security hence we want urgent lunching of scheme, Tiwari added.

It is fact that administration has not been giving  food security to all illegible families as per provision of food control order 2001 and existing list of year 2012 of BPL families     and even  after supreme court of India clear cut guidelines and union control Food Control Order -2001 that every year list of BPL families under PDS food security scheme should renewed as per list submitted by Village Panchayat in it’s “Gramsabha”, Maharashtra Govt. is giving food to the families as per it’s own survey done in the year 1997 by making mockery of “Right to Food”  denying food security to more than 5 million BPL families mostly tribal and downtrodden facing malnutrition and starvation hence recent announcement is in line with the fact that state is under pressure  to enforce supreme court direction and guidelines of  Food Control Order 2001,Tiwari added. .

“The recent announced of food and civil supply minister will add at least around 5 million BPL families identified by administration are denied food security making just mockery of Nation food security mission, UPA promised universal PDS with food @ 2 Rs./kg in 2009 then Maharashtra PDF Govt. promised to give food under PDS to all @Rs. 1/kg but till date  promise has not fulfilled hence we welcome the move ” Tiwari said .
