Vidarbha reports four more farm suicides during ‘Nagpur Session’-Farmers to protest CM’s Tomorrow
Yavatmal Visit
First four days of Nagpur session of winter Maharashtra
assembly, innocent victim of Govt. apathy has added four more debt-trapped
farmers suicide in agrarian crisis hit vidarbha, they are
1. Ramesh zarkar of village chandapur in chnadrapur
2. Chandraprakash kadskar of village chikhali in chandrapur
3. Praful rajurkar of village mauda in yavatmal
4. Manohar maske of village kurja in bhandara
taking total tally 742 in 2013 in vidarbha as flood and
excessive rain has damaged crop in more than one million hector and around 5
million dry land farmers are in despair and distress due massive crop failure
of main cash crop cotton and soybean but till date even after announcement
after announcement of relief package to tune of Rs.3480 crore since august 2013
,dying farmers have not received relief aid
resulting farmers suicides and CM Prithviraj Chavan of Maharashtra is
spending lakhs of rupees on functions hence hundreds of crisis hit farmers of yavatmal districts will
protest his visit on 15th December to open new check post at village
Pimpalkhutti(180 KM from Nagpur) on AP-Telangana border, the same villages and
more than 100 villages which were worst hit due flood in july-august this
year of Penganga river till not received
any aid even after union agriculture minister sharad pawar visited same
village on 12th September
this year which shows apathy of
Maharashtra administration that we want echo before the Maharashtra CM ,Kishore
Tiwari of Vidarbha Janandolan Samiti (VJAS) informed today, urging Govt. to provide
aid to tackle very pathetic situation to give healing touch to dying farming
community which is crying for food, medicine and relief aid .
‘We will protest before same to draw his attention to the
core issues of the farming community as sudden
slash in procurement prices of both cotton
and soybean by the cartel of traders on the ground of quality ,has increased huge economic losses and
farmers who protesting the traders cartel are being send to jail whi is adding fuel
in to crisis and central Govt. relief announcement of Rs.922 crore has added
fuel to the agrarian crisis as this is too little to compensate the huge losses of crop and
properties ,has increased despair and distress as all announcements are turning
out to be hoax for example in August Maharashtra Chief Minister announced
Rs.2000 crore relief aid but till date nothing has been released as there are more
than 5 million crisis effected farmers
and others hence it is obvious this aid
is peanut hence vidarbha farmers and farmers are pressing demands compensation to tune of actual losses
,higher support price for cotton and soybean i.e. @ Rs.6000/ quintal and
@5000/quintal, ”
Tiwari said.
As winter session
of Maharashtra assembly is in progress it is expected that CM should visit
crisis hit region and discuss the progress over relief disbursement and review
the relief rehabilitation of victims but he is just attending state functions
and hardship of masses are ignored if same apathy is continued congress will
have pay cost hostile functioning in 2014 general election, Tiwari said
