Dated -8th April 2015
Maharashtra 1.34 crore drought
effected farmers today welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announcement to give higher compensation for crop damage and relaxing the norms
to the untimely rain affected farmers as now amount of compensation has been increased to
1.5 times. If earlier a farmer was getting Rs. 100 as compensation, now he will
get Rs. 150, if it was Rs. 1 lakh, he will get Rs. 1.5 lakh... a 50 per cent
increase,Kishor Tiwari convener of Vidarbha Janandolan samiti (VJAS) said today it in press release.
In Maharashtra more than 1.34 crore farmers of around 2500
villages mostly in the region vidarbha and marathwada are under severe drought
and recent rain has added fuel in
already aggrieved agrarian crisis resulting more than 1100 farmers suicides in
the year 2015 ,hence we are urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give same
relief package to Maharashtra farmers as state govt. has reduced the relief
amount by 50% where as central Govt. has increased to 150% ,Tiwari added.
VJAS urged Prime Minister
Narendra Modi to implement his own formula of giving MSP(minimum support price )to farm produce that
is investment plus 50% profit in addition give
fresh farm loan waiver as restructuring of defaulted crop loan has been unpaid
for last five years ,banks should also be asked to give fresh long term loan to
distress ed farmers for daughter marriage and kids higher education and
critical health treatment as these are major factors along with crop damage
resulting farmers suicides hence it should also be addressed ,Tiwari said
