पिछले 18 महीनों में यवतमाल जिले में लगभग 456 किसानों द्वारा आत्महत्या किए जाने का दावा किया गया है, जबकि वर्ष 2026 के पहले छह महीनों में ही 126 किसान आत्महत्या कर चुके हैं। ये केवल आँकड़े नहीं, बल्कि टूटे हुए परिवारों की दर्दनाक कहानी हैं।
इसी त्रासदी का सबसे हृदयविदारक उदाहरण है श्रीमती नीमा ज्ञानेश्वर मालेकर का परिवार।
उन्होंने पहले अपने दो जवान बेटों को खोया। इसके बाद उनके पति ज्ञानेश्वर मालेकर ने भी आत्महत्या कर ली। एक ही किसान परिवार के तीन सदस्यों को खोने के बाद नीमाबाई आज पूरी तरह अकेली, मानसिक रूप से टूट चुकी और गंभीर आर्थिक संकट में जीवन बिता रही हैं।
यह केवल एक परिवार की कहानी नहीं है, बल्कि विदर्भ के हजारों किसान परिवारों की सामूहिक पीड़ा का प्रतीक है।
विदर्भ के किसानों की दर्दभरी आवाज़
"हम देश के लिए अन्न उगाते हैं, लेकिन आज हमारे अपने घरों में दो समय का भोजन जुटाना कठिन हो गया है। खेती की लागत लगातार बढ़ रही है, जबकि फसलों का उचित मूल्य नहीं मिल रहा। अनियमित वर्षा, फसल नुकसान, बढ़ता कर्ज, अपर्याप्त बीमा सहायता और अनिश्चित आय ने हजारों किसानों को निराशा की स्थिति में पहुँचा दिया है।
अनेक किसानों ने आत्महत्या कर ली और उनके पीछे छूटे परिवार भूख, गरीबी और असुरक्षा से जूझ रहे हैं।

The agrarian crisis in Vidarbha is no longer merely an economic issue—it has become a profound humanitarian tragedy.
For years, rising cultivation costs, mounting debt, repeated crop failures, erratic weather, inadequate institutional support, limited crop-insurance relief and unstable farm incomes have pushed thousands of farming families into unbearable distress.
It has been claimed that around 456 farmers died by suicide in Yavatmal district during the last 18 months, including 126 during the first six months of 2026. These are not merely statistics—they represent shattered families, grieving widows, orphaned children and elderly parents left without support.
Among the most heartbreaking examples is the tragedy of Mrs. Nima Dnyaneshwar Malekar of Pimpalapur village.
She first lost her two young sons. Thereafter, her husband, Mr. Dnyaneshwar Malekar, also died by suicide. Having lost three members of the same farming family, Nimabai now lives alone, carrying immense emotional trauma while facing severe financial hardship and uncertainty.
Her story is not an isolated incident. It reflects the suffering experienced by thousands of farming families across Vidarbha.

"We grow food for the nation, yet today many farming families struggle to secure even two meals a day for themselves. The cost of cultivation continues to rise while farm incomes remain uncertain. Crop failures, mounting debt, inadequate insurance support and financial insecurity have pushed countless farmers into despair.
Many have taken their own lives, leaving behind widows, elderly parents and children to struggle for survival.
