Severe drought of last year and initial re sowing and very poor crop loan disbursement coupled with historic shortage fertilizer has restarted farm suicide spiral in vidarbha as five more distressed farmers committed suicide in last 72 hours out five three are tribal farmers who have been denied khawati loan (food loan) even after orders of high court .fresh victims are
1.Eknath Madavi of Wandali in Chandrapur
2.Bharat Mesharam of Sarali in Bhandara
3.Dili Kumare of Nimboli in Wardha
4.Prahlad Rathode of Grampoha in Washim
5.Shankar Gujarkar of Sawra in
All victims are who were debt trapped farmers and in acute financial crisis as they lost standing crop more due very heavy raining and recent flood resulting huge economic loss and extremity of killing themselves in order to get rescue from agrarian crisis, Kishor Tiwari of Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti informed in a press release today
VJAS has announced massive ‘Dharna’ agitation in order to put demands of dying vidarbha farmers to demand which are fresh credit to debt trapped farmers , crop insurance payment of last year crop failure and drought ,rehabilitation and bailout package to more than 4 Lakhs SHGs and ‘khawati karz’ to all 2 million tribal families as per recent high court order . tiwari added
VJAS requested Indian Govt. to provide bailout package under NFSM (National food security mission) and RKVY(Rashtriya krishi vikas yojana) as loan waiver and earlier PM package failed address the basic issues of vidarbha agrarian crisis ,tiwari said .
