Sharad Pawar Disappoints Vidarbha Farmers-VJAS

Sharad Pawar Disappoints  Vidarbha Farmers-VJAS

NAGPUR: 17th September 2013

Union agriculture minister Sharad Power’s recent tour to agrarian crisis hit region vidarbha after gap of seven years since he came with PM in July 2006 has disappointed distressed and debt trapped 3 million cotton farmers  as he ignored main demands of higher MSP for cotton and fresh bank credit to all defaulter farmers more over he added more fuel to the on going agrarian crisis by announcing  that  region not need any central special relief package and Govt. is imposing export duty on cotton export will act as trigger for more farm suicides ,Kishore Tiwari of Vidarbha Janandolan Samiti (VJAS) informed today, urging Indian Govt. provide aid to tackle very pathetic situation as state Govt. failed to give any healing touch to dying farming community which is crying for food, medicine and relief aid.
‘for the first time after gap 25 years Sharad Pawar has moved farm suicide hit cotton growing area yavatmal area where more than 2000 farmers suicides re[ported since 1997 and all villages on the road he moved  farm widows lined up and were waiting that he will come and ask hardship but that has not happened without  any farm widow or distressed debt trapped cotton farmers he declared that crop ground condition is good and country expecting bumper crop that is more painful and irritating’ Tiwari added.

Vidarbha where more than million acres of land has been eroded and crop lost amounting more than Rs.20,000 crore but Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has already submitted a proposal seeking Rs1,180 crore for Vidarbha.while roads and bridges have been damaged on a large scale and need urgent repairs but till date final assessment report  of state govt. has not been submitted and farmers are crying for help, Tiwari said

Earlier too when Indian Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh visited vidarbha on 1st July 2006 for announcing vidarbha relief package of Rs.3750 and he told the farm widows that his visit to give healing touch to distressed farmers  but  all promises given by him went in vain  and complete relief package followed by farm loan waiver failed to address the farm suicide issue failed miserably and his so called ‘Healing Touch’ has given more pain and despair now Indian Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar is on three day “Farm suicide tourism”  with same slogan that his tour is not political one and he is visiting flood hit region to give healing touch to dying farmers but farmers are requesting him not to rub the salt to their wounds by giving to promises and creating rosy picture as it’s trigger more suicide as when PM promise of farm credit ,direct aid and restoration to  sustainable agriculture and livelihood of agrarian community turned to be hoax, Tiwari said.
