Severe Health Crisis as Massive Spraying on Toxic Insecticide Claims 8 Cotton Farmers Death in Yavatmal

The chief of Vasantrao Naik Shetkari Swavalamban Mission (the state government task force to deal with farm distress) Kishore Tiwari to urged central Govt. for urgent intervention after the reports of 8 innocent Bt cotton cultivators who got ill and died in the hospital after spraying toxic insecticides to control massive attack sucking pest and pink bollworm on Bt cotton this year where as four more farmers lost their vision and under treatment in Govt. medical college hospital Yavatmal .
This is first time environment changes resulting summer in rainy season and huge attack of bollworm and whitefly ,sucking pest resulted on cotton crop forced farmers to go for continuous uncontrolled insecticide and pesticide spraying to save standing cotton crop and these tragic Incidents of accidental deaths & health crisis of innocent tribal farmers as they failed to take requisite precautions without any knowledge of code of conduct and ethics of toxic chemical spraying ,timing scheduled,wind direction discipline as there is no ground level agri.university or agri.deptt. extension services available and these are innocent victimization due to wrong introduction of failed technology,TIwari alleged ,as incidents of pink bollworm attack on Bt cotton this year again have alarmed the agriculture community.
The chief of VNSSM Tiwari has earlier claimed that this year the situation could be worse as it is found that the Bt cotton seeds were now susceptible to attack of not only pink worm, but also thips , mealybug and regular bollworm. With over 40 lakh hectares under cotton cultivation, Maharashtra has largest area of cotton crop in the country.

This combination is not in generally very toxic and but expert are failed to understand why this is causing death. Profenofos is having in toxicity when sprayed afternoon temperature without masking as reaction is causing skin reaction, burning sensation, dizziness headache resulting collapse . expert claimed this is result faulty application or intake of pesticides but as farmers are not trained and caught in this vicious circle of unregulated insecticides dealers ,we demand all families who lost bread earner should be given compensation and criminal action against all are resposcibale fro dealth of innocent cotton farmers ,TIwari added.
