I quote

1. 29.2 Fresh crop loan to all farmers is only solution to stop suicide.

Government of Maharashtra has announced that interest rate on crop loan will be reduced to 6% from existing 9%, but when only 5% farmers are taking loan for farming from bank, what is the use of this reduction, Kishore Tiwari asked. “In Vidarbha out of 3.2.million cotton growers, 2.8 million farmers are old defaulters of bank loans and not eligible for institutional credit.

Hence taking loan from private money lenders and falling in to the debt trap is inevitable for them. In order to stop this exploitation of Vidarbha farmers, it is must to provide them bank credit”.

Kishore Tiwari  informed Indian finance minister Arun Jaitely that Maharashtra is facing severe drought in 14 districts of Marathwada and Vidarbha region since 2014 and crop failure is being reported since 2012 and prevailing acute distress and despair has resulted in to very serious issues of farmers suicides and to address this agrarian crisis state govt. has started numbers of direct and indirect intervention in area of food security and health security ,rural employments ,creating protective irrigation facilities in each drought prone villages of region and  major relief  intervention to save these 8 million debt trapped farmers Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadanvis announced mega loan waiver in order to provide crop loans to at least 80% of these farmers but PSU banks hostile attitude and noncooperation failed its basic purpose of this loan waiver .
As debt is main issue in all cases of the farmers suicides in 14 districts of Maharashtra’s drought affected region hence the state has decided to cover all 8 million farmers of this to cover under institutional credit and has made very strong case before RBI  but till there is no response resulting in daily credit starved farmer’s suicides in Maharashtra, Tiwari added.
Task force  asked Indian finance minister Arun Jaitely  “Its not a time that the finance minister sitting as mute spectator, when our farmers are constrained to commit unfortunate suicides…………..!!!!”..We know that you are very busy & occupied,  but have a couple of minutes to read & act on this in the interest to protect dyeing farmers….!!.
